In Microsoft We Trust

According to an article posted on ZDNet (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5721852.html?tag=nl.e589) Microsoft has discovered that if you install the latest version of Netscape, it 'breaks' Internet Explorer. Their gracious solution? Uninstall Netscape.

Thank goodness Microsoft is out there to act as the watch dog and keep us from installing software that is bad for us. It's an interesting tactic actually and I surprised we haven't more of this kind of talk from Microsoft over the years. Afterall, the consumer electronics companies have been telling talking like this for years. Just look in the manual and see where they say you should use their brand of batteries for the thing.

The automotive industry works hard at this as well. We've all heard the claim that if you don't use a genuine "whatever" fuel filter, you run the risk of the tires falling off as you round the corner.

Here is a final thought on this. If I'm installing Netscape 8.0 on my computer, doesn't that imply that I am, in some way, unhappy with Internet Explorer and want something different? If that is true, what do I care if IE breaks?
